Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the United States has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.

It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
