After enduring significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, LA is now confronting abnormally hot weather for the end of February.
Record-Shattering Heat
By Friday afternoon, the thermometer soared to 91°F (33°C) in the city center, per data from meteorologists. This breaks the previous daily record for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were noted on forecast charts for the region.
Public Health Warnings
Authorities issued a warning that Friday's weather posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations suggested:
- Staying hydrated.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave anyone unattended in a hot car.
A Sharp Reversal
This sudden spike in mercury comes on the heels of a intense winter storm that pummeled the region earlier in the week. That storm brought heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, leading to flash flood warnings for many residents.

Weekend Outlook
Forecasters predict cooler conditions is coming. Readings were expected to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in downtown LA by overnight.
Several cities that experienced ninety degrees were Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were expected to see the high 80s.
For the weekend, central Los Angeles can anticipate temperatures in the 80s, with a further cooldown expected for the following week.
